Belune

Terminology

Where the name Belune comes from, and the words used across these docs.

The Name

Belune is a portmanteau of beluga — the small white whale — and lune, French for moon. The mark draws the name literally: a beluga nestled in a crescent moon.

The visual identity was created by Winnie Ha.

The Mark and Palette

The accent color splits by theme rather than staying fixed: indigo (#4249BD) in light mode, violet (#7C3AED) in dark mode. Dark is the default — Belune leans into the nocturnal, moonlit half of its own name, and the landing page's hero glow is the same violet rendered as a soft radial gradient.

The voice is deliberately ease-forward rather than enterprise-formal ("Deploy like the cloud," not "Enterprise-grade self-hosted PaaS orchestration platform") — the tagline drops "self-hosted" and "PaaS" on purpose so it reads the same regardless of how the project's business model develops.
